Planning consent at the George Hotel in Huddersfield

We are delighted that planning consent at the George Hotel has been granted.

This iconic landmark holds tremendous historical and cultural significance, and we are thrilled to have been a part of the journey to secure its revitalisation.

The collaborative efforts between Kirklees Council, Queensberry, Historic England, and our dedicated team have culminated in this crucial milestone.

We are the lead consultant, architect, conservation architect, principal designer and party wall surveyor on the project.

Now planning consent has been granted at the George, we look forward to bringing the vision to life, working with Morgan Sindall on the next phase to transform it into a 91-bedroom Radisson Red Hotel.

The proposed £20m refurbishment of a historic Huddersfield hotel has been given the go-ahead.

Members of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee voted to approve the plans for the George Hotel in Huddersfield at a meeting yesterday on 8 June 2023.

The 91-room boutique hotel, to be operated by Radisson RED, forms part of the wider Huddersfield Blueprint, a ten-year vision to create a thriving town centre boasting a diverse and exciting offer.

Located adjacent to the Huddersfield Railway Station, The George Hotel was the first building on St George’s Square in 1851.

As part of the refurbishment, the original building, which faces St George’s Square, will be refurbished almost entirely in its current state. The hotel’s historic façade will also be preserved along John William Street, but with a new structure replacing the existing internal structures behind.
