Michael Feather – Managing Director
Architect

Michael Feather, managing director of Bowman Riley, leads the company’s operations and shapes its strategic vision aligned with business goals. His focus on enhancing client care, efficiency, and commercial success drives continuous improvement supported by an experienced senior leadership team.
Michael develops and implements business targets, timelines, and effective risk management strategies. He seeks new opportunities, attracts clients, and nurtures existing relationships through thorough due diligence.
Bringing more than 20 years of experience in the property industry, Michael has been a pivotal member of the senior leadership team since 2014.
An architect by profession, Michael initially started his career at Bowman Riley as a work experience student. Following several years working in London, he returned to his Yorkshire roots and in 2009, full circle, back to Bowman Riley.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing and coaching rugby, cycling and outdoor activities.

Tony Pleasants – Director
BSc Hons
Tony Pleasants is a dynamic board director leading our London office and driving business growth across the South.
With a career that began at Bowman Riley in 2007, Tony has steadily advanced through roles of increasing responsibility, becoming a key member of the senior leadership team in 2016. His expertise lies in cultivating strong industry relationships and generating new business opportunities.
Tony plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s strategic direction and financial planning. He works closely with our team to uphold our Core Values and deliver exceptional results on every project.
Since founding the London office in 2012, Tony has overseen a series of high-profile projects, including Shell’s first fully electric vehicle charging forecourt in Fulham, a new Hampton by Hilton hotel in Ashford, Kent, and major residential developments for Countryside in Acton and Kingston, West London.
Outside of work, Tony is a passionate football fan and enjoys quality time with his young family and dog, Lola.

Darren Bush – Director

Darren Bush has been a director of Bowman Riley since 2005 and is one of our most experienced leadership team members.
As a diligent and experienced architect, Darren is adept at managing large-scale roll-out programmes with experience gained from leading the Wm Morrison Supermarkets framework for over two decades. He ensures the reliable and quality project delivery to exact client requirements achieved through delivering consistent design excellence.
More recently, Darren has been leading the design of sustainable energy resources, including ultra-rapid electronic charging and hydrogen.
Darren is an expert in delivering specialist retail and forecourt solutions across all traditional and modern fuel types. His achievements include designing the UK’s first 100% renewable fast-charging electric vehicle forecourt with a 5MVA power supply in Braintree in Essex, battery energy storage and delivering a new modular building. This building houses a vehicle showroom, convenience store, meeting, and lounge to offer drivers’ facilities while their vehicles charge for an enhanced customer experience.
Situated on a greenfield site designated as a technology park, Darren led the architecture team comprising the lead designer and principal designer for the whole site, the architecture on the forecourt and the delivery architecture on the new modular building. In addition, Darren led the teams of further specialists, consultants, and contractors to progress the project in line with the challenging time scales. This sustainable site features photovoltaic panels, greenery, rainwater harvesting and a balancing pond for urban drainage.
In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, tennis and travelling.

Colin Briggs-Campbell – Director
BA (Hons) PGDipArch RIBA, RIBA Conservation Registrant, MSc Management Practice, FCMI Chartered Manager, BA French Language & Related Studies
Colin Briggs-Campbell is the Director leading the architectural team in our Leeds office and a key member of our leadership team.
Chartered architect Colin has considerable design flair and excels in client engagement. He successfully leads various design projects while developing positive client relationships and securing new work for Bowman Riley.
To support his role in the leadership team, Colin achieved a master’s in Management Practice at the University of Manchester and is chartered with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Over the years, Colin’s projects have received industry awards, including ‘Best Building Design’ for Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and ‘Heritage Project of the Year’ at the RICS Yorkshire and Humber Property Awards for Grantley Hall Hotel and Wellness Retreat.
Colin undertook further training in conservation architecture and is now a RIBA Conservation Registrant.
He is also fluent in French, a Grade 8 pianist and is studying towards a Diploma in Classical Music

Craig Mewse is a director at Bowman Riley and a qualified architect recognised for producing high-quality, responsive designs. He takes a logical, objective approach to all his projects with the ability to quickly turn the ideas of a team into concrete and practical plans.
Craig is particularly known for his expertise in the education sector. His work encompasses a deep understanding of the challenges and requirements of designing environments that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
Throughout his career, Craig has demonstrated a passion for creating spaces that foster inclusivity, accessibility, and functionality, ensuring that education facilities are aesthetically pleasing and optimised for enhanced learning experiences. His track record includes designing the new Sandside Lodge SEN School in Ulveston, Cumbria and the refurbishment of Brooklands SEN School in Skipton, North Yorkshire, for which he was awarded the ‘Outstanding Contributor Award’ at the 2023 Yorkshires – Commercial Real Estate Awards.
Craig has travelled extensively around Asia, Australasia and South America.

Dan Heward – Director

Promoted to Associate Director in 2023, Dan Heward is a qualified architectural technologist with 20 years’ experience. He provides design solutions that concentrate on the technology of building design and construction.
Dan undertakes the role of project leader working with our clients and the rest of the design team to manage the construction process from conception through to completion.
He has led the technical delivery of a wide range of retail developments for The Co-operative Group and Wm Morrison Supermarkets. He has specific expertise in large scale roll-out programmes to remodel and refurbish existing retail stores and in adapting and converting other buildings into retail premises.
Dan always strives to deliver projects to the highest technical standards. He has particular expertise in the conversion and extension of redundant properties transforming them into viable commercial spaces and in the delivery of fast track projects with extremely quick build programmes.
Dan and his team pioneer cutting-edge construction techniques to improve the speed of project delivery and provide best value solutions to meet client needs in the highly competitive retail sector.

April Marsden – Associate Director

Promoted to Associate Director in 2023, April Marsden is an architect with a wealth of experience and a focus on achieving the best outcomes for her clients.
April joined us over four years ago as an Associate and then progressed to become a Senior Associate in 2022, where she has been an influential member of our team.
She leads a specialist architectural team that works collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders to produce holistic and considerate design solutions built on current thinking, innovative construction techniques and the implementation of technology critical to successful building management.
Interested in applying modular construction and sustainability, especially off-site and pre-fabrication, April is keen to ensure full integration with existing structures without compromising architectural design and quality.
One of her key roles is in client liaison, where her listening and understanding readily help to create strong and meaningful relationships, many of which are longstanding, with clients returning back to her over her 20 years in the profession.
April is the current regional chair of the Yorkshire and North East branch of Women in Property.
In her spare time, April enjoys spending time with her two daughters, skiing and generally enjoying the Yorkshire Dales.

Samantha Jevons – Senior Associate – Marketing & Business Development

Samantha Jevons is a Senior Associate with a strong background in marketing and business development within the property industry. Having been promoted in 2024, she works closely with the leadership team and offers expertise in marketing, communications, and business development.
Her role includes developing and executing marketing strategies, writing communications, overseeing bids, maintaining client relationships, and organising events.
Additionally, Samantha has been a committee member of the Forum of the Built Environment (fbe) Leeds Branch since 2019, where she plays a key role in facilitating industry events, seminars, and discussion panels.
In her personal life, Samantha enjoys spending time with her young son, travelling abroad, hosting parties, reading captivating stories, and embracing her love for dresses. She is also a certified advanced scuba diver.

Helen Walker – Head of Heritage
DipID BArch RIBA Senior Conservation Architect
Helen Walker is our Head of Heritage and a qualified Conservation Architect with over 12 years of experience working with heritage assets.
As a conservation architect, Helen’s role is to primarily provide an overarching view of the heritage projects within the practice. She provides a broad range of heritage services including Heritage Impact Assessments, Quinquennial Inspections and advice on historic building repairs and identification of defects.
Helen has experience of working with a wide variety of heritage assets including Grade I, II* and II listed buildings as well as battlefields, scheduled ancient monuments and conservation areas. She has provided heritage advice to a wide variety of clients including local authorities, private clients and organisations such as the National Trust.
Helen loves the challenge of working with heritage assets and is conscious of the importance of balancing the needs of the client with the needs of the building so that people can enjoy these wonderful structures for generations to come.
In her spare time, when not ferrying her children to a variety of clubs, Helen sings in her local choir and loves walking and rugby (watching not playing!).

Laura Baarda is a qualified interior designer and member of the British Institute of Interior Design.
A graduate of Northumbria University with a first-class degree in Interior Design, Laura started her career at a high-end residential interior design company in Shrewsbury for several years.
Joining Bowman Riley in 2018, Laura returned to her Yorkshire homeland working as part of our interiors team, which was launched in January 2017.
Laura’s latest obsession is sailing. She is a newly trained day skipper and can’t wait to embark on more nautical adventures. Laura values family, her dog, and laughter.

Tom Shelley – Head of Interior Architecture

With over 15 years of experience, Tom Shelley is a qualified interior designer and member of the British Institute of Interior Design.
Tom Shelley combines a flair for design with a personable manner and the technical expertise to be able to deliver an interior design scheme from concept to completion.
Qualifying as an Interior Designer in 2002 from Manchester Metropolitan University, Tom started working as an interior design professional in Manchester on a multitude of commercial and industrial projects nationwide.
In 2006, Tom moved to Bowman Riley joining the Leeds team and working on the interior design of the prestigious Toronto Square development where the office is now based.
In 2014, Tom achieved a first-class degree in Architectural Technology from Leeds Beckett University. This technical qualification gives Tom an edge over other designers in his field.
The British Institute of Interior Design granted Tom full membership in 2017.
Tom loves cycling and renovating his self-designed home.

Promoted to Associate in 2023, Daniel Postill is a qualified Architect with exceptional design talent.
He is passionate about carbon reduction in building design and successfully completed Passive House (Passivhaus) training in Autumn 2022 to become a BRE-accredited Passive House designer.
Dan has considerable design flair and has built an eclectic portfolio of experience from exceptional residential developments and student accommodation, education buildings, commercial and industrial schemes, hotels and leisure projects.
Actively involved in the Leeds Chamber of Commerce, Dan plays an important role in their Property Forum’s Quality Spaces and Places group influencing and improving the public realm in Leeds.
In his spare time, he enjoys growing his own vegetables, attending gigs and foreign travel. His bucket list goal is to visit every European country.

Mark Hayton – Associate Architectural Technologist, Certified Passive House Designer

Promoted to Associate in 2023, Mark is an accomplished architectural technologist with over 20 years of experience and a certified Passivhaus designer.
To support Bowman Riley’s carbon reduction targets and our clients’ eco ambitions, Mark completed training to become a certified Passive House (Passivhaus) training in 2022 to become a BRE accredited Passive House designer.
Qualifying in 1998 as an architectural technician, Mark supported the technical delivery of a range of developments for Bowman Riley Architects. After several years, he needed a new challenge and moved on to work as a technical manager for a building contractor.
During his time with a building contractor, Mark worked on many prestigious projects, including Southampton Football Club Training Academy, St Oswald’s Extra Care Retirement Village, Brighton University Varley Halls of Residence, Dorchester Brewery and Asda Supermarkets.
After taking time out to enjoy life in Grenada in Spain, Mark returned to the UK in 2013 and started working back at Bowman Riley.
Outside of the office, Mark enjoys teaching his young son how to swim and play football. Mark is a keen cyclist, and while living in Spain for 18 months, he raced for a semi-professional cycle team and learnt Spanish.

Promoted to Associate in 2023, James Ross is an experienced project architect, project manager, account manager and team leader with a proven track record of delivering successful projects on time and to budget.
He has a broad knowledge of construction with the ability to approach a project as a design team leader or as a building contractor.
James’ experience spans energy, residential, commercial, hotels and retail sectors at a variety of scales. He has also worked on a series of listed buildings and delivered projects within conservation areas.
James’ hobbies and interests include rock climbing, playing the guitar and listening to music.

Roy Wilson – Associate Architect
Promoted to Associate in 2019, Roy Wilson is an Architect based in our London office leading a number of commercial mixed-use and residential projects in the capital and the South of England.
Qualifying as an Architect in 2009, Roy has worked as part of the Bowman Riley team for over 10 years making a significant contribution to the practice with a high level of attention to detail and proficiency in the use of BIM as a collaborative tool.
Roy has a track record of delivering schemes that have been driven by the need to achieve cost savings and fast-track programmes whilst still maintaining a high level of quality on both traditional and design and build developments.
Roy designed the Albion Place retail development on Skipton High Street, which won ‘Development of the Year 2014’ at the Yorkshire Business Insider Property Awards.

Stephen Haestier – Associate Architect

Stephen Haestier joined Bowman Riley in 2001 and has gained varied experience from working on a range of construction projects ranging from the refurbishment of listed buildings to industrial schemes and housing developments.
He was promoted to Associate in 2008 and since then he has continued to progress his career with an expanding portfolio of retail and industrial projects, expanding into the areas of master planning and urban design.
Stephen was part of the team that secured the first BREEAM Excellent 2006 accredited supermarket in the UK. Stephen also coordinates our BIM implementation strategy ensuring that the practice remains at the forefront of this field.
In 2014, Stephen took on the responsibility for driving forwards Bowman Riley’s adoption of BIM and coordinates our response across the practice.
Outside work, Stephen is a member of Ilkley and District Round Table and as former Chair enjoys taking time out to raise money for local charities when he is not chasing after his young family.

Steve McDonald – Associate Architect

Steve McDonald joined Bowman Riley in 1994 and was promoted to Associate in 1999. As a qualified architect , Steve provides support to the director in charge of the retail sector within the office heading up design teams for various developments.
Steve has an impressive track record in the successful delivery of retail developments from inception through to completion.
For the past decade, Steve has specialised in retail and commercial developments pioneering fast track delivery, sustainable construction and zero carbon technologies. Steve has more recently been responsible for the delivery of a number of large extension projects, requiring complex phasing solutions, and shell fit outs.
Areas of work primarily with Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc and include various store refurbishments, store extensions, new build stores and petrol filling stations both new and existing.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys playing the drums, ten pin bowling and family walks.

David Hodgson has worked at Bowman Riley for 30 years and has been involved in various market sectors including hotel, leisure, residential, retail, industrial and educational.
In 2004 David was promoted to Associate and now deliver projects from inception to completion with the assistance of architectural and technical support.
Over the last 15 years, David has worked as a Project Leader on a variety of projects in the residential, retail, commercial, education and hotels and leisure sectors including the renovation of three listed hotels including The Judges Lodging, Swinton Park and The Beverley Arms.
In recent years David has specialised in leading the delivery of private residential schemes. His responsibilities include detailed negotiations to secure planning approval (and discharge conditions), production information, liaising with contractor and specialists throughout the course of the building works.
He is a keen follower of Liverpool Football Club and enjoys watching live music.

Outside of projects, Chris is a reliable and approachable support for our junior team members, which was recognised in 2019 when he was promoted to Senior Architectural Technologist.

Rebecca provides professional photography for people, events, and properties. Her high-quality images capture brand stories, team dynamics, and work quality. She also offers heritage building record photography in collaboration with in-house heritage specialists.

Rebecca creates immersive 3D tours, allowing clients and tenants to explore properties remotely—a powerful tool that offers a competitive edge in today’s market.
At Bowman Riley Rebecca serves as brand guardian, managing the design and production of top-quality marketing collateral, including brochures, flyers, and other communications. She collaborates with the marketing manager on business development strategy, communications, bid management, client relations, and event planning.
Outside of work, Rebecca loves the outdoors and is a passionate foodie. Whether exploring the countryside or skiing in the French Alps, her energy and creativity extend well beyond the office.
Beth Hodson – Senior Chartered Building Surveyor
In 2024, Beth Hodson was promoted to Senior Chartered Building Surveyor in recognition of her work ethic, client support, and commitment to improving carbon reduction at Bowman Riley.
Beth’s journey in the surveying world reached a significant milestone in 2023 when she earned her Chartered Surveyor designation after successfully passing the rigorous Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). Her expertise has since been showcased through leading diverse building surveying projects for notable clients like Craven District Council and York College.
Beth has furthered her qualifications by becoming a Level 4 Non-Domestic Energy Assessor. This credential empowers her to carry out detailed energy performance assessments for complex non-domestic buildings, ensuring they meet the latest energy efficiency standards and regulations.
Beth’s career at Bowman Riley began in 2020 when she joined their Building Consultancy team as a Graduate Building Surveyor. Before that, she honed her skills over six years as a residential property manager, adeptly overseeing property portfolios and ensuring they met high maintenance standards.
Active in the industry, Beth is chair of the northern branch of the The Access Association and a committee member of Yorkshire & North East branch of Women in Property.
John Coultas – Principal Architect
BA (Hons) DipArch (Oxford) RIBA
John Coultas joined Bowman Riley over 25 years ago following his qualification as an architect in 1991 and four years working for a Yorkshire-based practice.
Over the years John has looked at the development potential of hundreds of locations and with our team, has achieved planning consent for thousands of homes on challenging sites throughout Yorkshire. A good proportion of these properties have been constructed under his stewardship.
By reputation, John has built up a client base comprising some of the region’s highest-regarded business people. His projects include one of the country’s largest ice cream factories, the UK’s most technologically advanced soft drinks factory, a state-of-the-art model farm, the new office head office for a software company and the Grade I listed refurbishment of the Judge’s Lodging in York.
Away from work, John enjoys visiting the North Yorkshire Moors and Lake District.

Ruth Bush has over 20 years’ experience designing community, education, commercial and historic buildings.
She enjoys working closely with clients to fulfil every aspect of their brief and excels in user group, stakeholder and community consultation throughout the design process. Ruth was the project architect on two award-winning projects; the Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough and Bright Beginnings Childcare Centre for the University of Leeds. As a BREEAM Accredited Professional, she is committed to embracing sustainable principles whilst producing designs that are efficient, workable and surpass expectations.

Karen Lee joined our Leeds team in 2022 as a Senior Architect.
With over eight years of experience in designing projects, she relishes taking on board a client’s vision and making it a reality.
Karen approaches each project with a strong technical focus to resolve design issues, which she has successfully put into practice across the commercial, education, retail, industrial and residential sectors.
In her spare time, she enjoys long walks, playing badminton, eating food from around the world and dressmaking.

James Barnes – Senior Architect

Promoted to Senior Architect in 2022, James Barnes works as an integral part of the healthcare team, James joined Bowman Riley in July 2015 following a design and management role within his family’s construction business.
Conscientious and a keen problem solver, James applies his analytical skills to an architectural environment making the best use of available space in order to take a scheme from concept to completion. He has on-site experience and is comfortable conversing with team members at all levels of the construction process.
Whilst at university, James spent a summer volunteering in Nepal, working in a school for children with disabilities, using his practical skills to help repair the school building and teach the children English.
In his spare time, he is an acoustic guitarist, and vocalist and enjoys playing football and squash.

Based in our Leeds office, Robert Sharples is a RIBA conservation architect with a passion for historic architecture.
Robert’s approach is to celebrate historic architecture and settings, focusing on conserving the best of the past whilst introducing modern interventions and retrofits that contribute to the viability of a building’s use and reuse.
Working within our heritage team, Robert brings a wealth of experience on working on listed buildings, from producing comprehensive information packages and design and access statements, listed building consent applications, heritage statements, extensive Heritage Impact Assessments and condition surveys. He has worked on a variety of sites with both existing and new architecture, located within a green belt and within conservation areas.
His experience includes working on a host of listed buildings for the universities of Leeds and Bradford, the Grade II-listed Folk Hall in York, and the Grade II-listed Shine Business Centre in Leeds.
Outside of work,, his interests include visits to exhibitions, the theatre, historic houses, antiques, and furniture. Robert enjoys working in the city and experiencing the great outdoors. He also enjoys good coffee and good food.

Simon Rolley – Chartered Building Surveyor

Chartered Building Surveyor, Simon Rolley joined Bowman Riley’s Building Consultancy team in January 2022.
Based in the Leeds office, Simon has over six years post qualification experience delivering core building surveying and project management services with a well-known multi-disciplinary construction consultancy. He has worked with both public and private sector clients across the education, healthcare, commercial and residential sectors.
Outside of work, Simon enjoys exploring the outdoors through climbing, cycling, and hiking. He is also a keen DIYer and can usually be found pottering at home with some form of a project always on the go!

Andrew Tate – Senior Architectural Technician
HND Building Studies
Andrew Tate has considerable experience in the use of BIM using Revit Architecture to produce architectural models on a wide variety of projects with contract values ranging from £5 million to £60 million.
He works with the wider design team to share BIM information for the overall benefit of the project delivery. Andy has developed in-house best practice protocols for the use of Revit and produced standard templates. He is actively involved with the Bowman Riley BIM steering group, set up to facilitate the use of BIM in line with industry standards and clients’ expectations.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys mountain biking and walking.

Antony Savory-Sutcliffe – Senior Architectural Technologist

With over 10 years’ of experience as a Chartered Architectural Technologist, Antony has worked on a diverse range of projects. These projects include masterplanning for housing developments, high-rise mixed-use buildings, refurbishments of listed buildings and a coastal hotel/ spa retreat in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Passionate in both conservation and sustainability, this has led him to work on many dilapidated buildings. This has required the recording of the existing fabric of the buildings, technical designs with sustainable solutions and managing the progression on-site through to their completion.
Antony loves to travel and has backpacked to many parts of the world including Europe and Eastern Asia. He enjoys going on long hikes around the countryside, which has seen him complete the Hadrian’s Wall Trial and climb the Yorkshire and National Three Peaks.

Darren Hill is a Senior Architectural Technologist with over 14 years’ experience in providing first-class technical support on a range of construction projects.
A technical expert, Darren focuses on delivering projects to the highest possible standard. He produces high-quality graphics that assist our clients and the wider project stakeholders in visualising the development during the design stages.
Proficient in the BIM software Revit Architecture, Darren designed the ByHaus apartments, Wm Morrison supermarkets, The Bailey and the Airmesh head office projects using the software to the benefit of the overall project efficiency.

Dan Sargeant returned to Bowman Riley in 2023 as a Senior Architectural Technician working within the energy team and based in our Leeds office.
His previous experience as a senior project manager showcases a diverse set of skills, including managing various construction schemes such as residential developments, retrofit projects, and fire safety improvements. His involvement in implementing BIM and creating company policies demonstrates his expertise in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency within the company.
Outside of work, Dan’s committed to spending quality time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities like sailing, paddle boarding, and camping in the Lake District.
Ben Stone – Senior Architectural Technologist and Certified Passive House Designer

Ben Stone was promoted to Senior Architectural Technologist in 2024 in recognition of his technical skills, commitment and positive contribution to Bowman Riley.
A Liverpool John Moore’s University graduate with a first-class degree in Architectural Technology, Ben joined our Leeds team in 2016 and has since become an associate member of The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. In 2024, Ben participated in an intensive week-long training course run by Passive House certifiers Zero Energy to become a certified Passive House Designer.
Enthusiastic and professional, Ben provides invaluable technical support to the Leeds team. He is able to apply his knowledge of current building regulations and up-to-date material specifications to successfully develop fully functioning architectural drawings.
Ben is proficient in producing architectural drawings using Revit. He is also competent in AutoCAD Architecture, NBS, NavisWorks, SketchUp and FormIt software products.
Whilst still at university, Ben travelled to Malaysia for a month to study the vernacular architecture and visited world UNESCO heritage sites in Penang and Malacca.
In his spare time, Ben enjoys watching live music along with travelling, having already visited parts of Malaysia and America. His next ambition is to travel through Route 66 within the next few years!

Nikoleta Daritkova is a Senior Architectural Technologist, working as part of our London team.
From Bulgaria, she completed her degree in Denmark and took a work placement in Germany.
Most of Nikoleta’s professional experience is within London’s high-end residential sector, where she has worked on mid-scale contemporary new-build houses and listed building refurbishments. She has also worked on sports and leisure and high-end retail fit-out projects.
Nikoleta has an eye for detail and a passion for design, both buildings and furniture, which she imparts in her projects. She believes that functionality, sustainability, and beautiful design do not have to be mutually exclusive.
In her spare time, she loves sitting down with a good book, attending events and exhibitions or planning a craft project.

Antony Wright is an analytical, focused and tenacious senior building surveyor with over a decade’s experience with the ability to deliver services to achieve the best results for his clients.
Working for nine years in London, Antony has relocated to Sheffield to build his life and career in Yorkshire.
Outside of the office, Antony has a keen passion for rock climbing and outdoor pursuits, which he enjoys for the mental, problem-solving and physical challenge. He also practices hatha yoga and mindfulness to look after his physical and mental health.
Gerard Langley – Senior Forecourt Design Manager

Gerard Langley is our Senior Forecourt Design Manager, who joined our team in Leeds in 2022. He joined our team following several years of delivering projects in the commercial and energy sectors, including fuel stations, heritage and conservation projects, and bespoke residential schemes.
He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2017 with a first-class honours degree in architectural technology. During his time at university, he was shortlisted and received a national student award for his final year project from the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology (CIAT).
Gerard gained hands-on experience in construction and the built environment from working as a self-employed joiner. He has achieved site carpentry and joinery qualifications along with broad knowledge and work experience in the architectural, museum and woodworking industries.
He enjoys making handcrafted timber furniture in his free time and visiting National Trust and English Heritage sites. He also likes to walk, explore, and hopefully find a coffee shop in between. When travelling, he loves to sightsee and visit cities and their architecture.

Chris Smith – Special Projects Coordinator

Chris Smith joined our team as a Special Projects Coordinator to work on energy projects, bringing over 19 years of experience in the architecture and construction industry.
He specialises in detailing concept designs across various sectors, including energy, aviation, retail, commercial, and education. Recently, he worked on production and engineering projects, including refits and refurbishments.
Chris’s skillset includes leadership, strategic planning and business development. He has a proven track record in client management, external supplier coordination, and ensuring design compliance with building regulations and planning requirements.
With extensive experience in producing 2D and 3D design details, Chris brings projects to life with precision and creativity. He is well versed in health and safety procedures and implementing reliability and efficiency initiatives to optimise project outcomes.
In his spare time, he enjoys going for walks with his family and travelling abroad. He also goes to the gym regularly. He played semi-professional football and also, in later life, was awarded a 1st Dan black belt in taekwondo.

Matthew Stubbs – Architect

Matthew Stubbs joined our team in Leeds in 2024 as an Architect.
Since he was 10 years old, he wanted to be an architect and studied at the University of the West of England in Bristol, Welsh School of Architecture and Bath University to achieve his ambition.
Starting his career in the South West in 2014, Matthew gained experience in working on healthcare retrofits supporting the NHS backlogs following Covid19, defence and student accommodation projects
He has specialised in the retail sector for the past two years, providing asset management services and delivering shell refurbishments across the North of England and Wales for one of the top five property companies in the UK.
Matthew is very interested in the creative reuse of buildings and would like to become Passive House accredited in the future.
Technically, he is proficient in BIM software and rendering.
During the last decade, Matthew supported two different charities, volunteering in South Africa and Kenya, assisting with food security projects, and working as a teacher’s assistant in a primary school.
In his spare time, Matthew likes to ski, play the guitar, paint acrylic on canvas, and photograph. He also loves DIY/renovation. He is gutting and renovating a 1950s house in Rawdon and enjoys collecting and perfecting practical skills.

Josie Brogan – Architect

Josie Brogan qualified as an architect in 2025.
Josie joined our team in 2022 as an architectural assistant supporting both the architecture and interior design teams.
Her obsession with architecture started at the age of seven when she realised the built environment was designed, drawn and sculpted. Josie is now a Part II Architectural Assistant after graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 2015 and Kingston University London in 2019. After working in Manchester, London and Berlin, she couldn’t resist coming home to her Yorkshire roots and bases herself in our Skipton office.
In 2021, Josie attended the Venice Biennale, an international cultural exhibition hosted annually in Italy to design, build and manage a team constructing the European Cultural Centre ArchiAfrika Pavilion showcasing African Architecture within the international architectural discourse.
Outside of her architectural life, Josie is interested in the preservation of traditional cultural crafts gaining two qualifications in Turkish and Romanian crafts. She claims not to be a master of any craft but enjoys collecting knowledge to further her understanding of materiality and construction. She also likes to explore the outdoors, whether hiking or swimming and is currently attempting to complete the 214 Wainwright walks.

Rachel Knight qualified as an architect in 2024.
Rachel joined our team in 2021 as a Part II Architectural Assistant following completion of her master’s degree at the Liverpool School of Architecture.
Whilst working towards qualifying as an architect, she is gaining valuable experience working on healthcare projects as part of our healthcare team.
Before this, she spent two years working on residential, leisure and education schemes in a small architectural practice in Bradford.
Throughout her studies, Rachel has developed a passion for social housing, community-based projects and enjoyed designing retirement living for an “active third age”
Outside of work, she enjoys taking long walks with her chocolate labrador, baking cakes and growing her own fruit and vegetables in her garden.

Brandon Strike achieved a BSc (Hons) in Computer Networks and Systems Support in 2022 and was promoted to IT Manager.
He has been a key member of our team since 2016, providing invaluable IT management to equip our team with the technology and tools we need to operate effectively.
With hands-on technical expertise, he ensures that our people are equipped with the hardware and software needed to deliver high-quality services to our clients.
He is passionate about protecting Bowman Riley’s systems and ensuring business continuity, which has resulted in our achievement of Cyber Essentials Plus.
In his spare time, Brandon likes to go on road trips, work on his car and is taking his motorbike license.
Piers Harrison – Bid Co-ordinator & Document Controller

Piers Harrison joined Bowman Riley in 2022 as a Bid Coordinator & Document Controller, working as a part of the marketing and business development team. In 2024, he passed the APMP® Bid and Proposal Management Foundation to be certified in his field of expertise.
Based in our office in Leeds, Piers is a graduate of the University of Greenwich in London, where he read Law. Piers worked as a bid manager for a clinical waste company for seven years before he joined Bowman Riley.
Piers brings a keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to the tender process and is invaluable in supporting our accreditations and membership renewals.
In his spare time, Piers is a passionate supporter of Leeds United, attending games on a regular basis. He also enjoys going on long walks and enjoys exploring the Yorkshire Dales with his partner and two young children.

In his spare time, Nick is learning to speak Russian! He loves hiking, rock climbing and wakeboarding and has “do a backflip” on his bucket list. He has also developed an addiction to Airbnb travels.

Madelaine Bradley joined Bowman Riley’s London team in 2021 after completing a degree in Architectural Design and Technology from Cardiff Metropolitan University. She worked at Bowman Riley on placement in 2020 and was excited to return to our team to begin her career.
Madelaine has a keen interest in earthquake and hazard resilient architecture and how this could be incorporated into initial building design to prevent damage to buildings from unexpected events.
She is inspired by Biophilic principles and environmentally sustainable design. She also loves to create spaces that empower people.
In her spare time, Madelaine enjoys reading and creating landscape art using watercolours, acrylics and inks. To keep fit, she loves to ski and snowboard and at home, practices yoga, which also helps to keep her focused. With a passion for travelling and learning about new cultures, she would love to visit Japan one day.

Ian Scott joined our Skipton office as an Architectural Technologist in 2022.
An experienced Architectural Technologist and graduate of Northumbria University, Ian has a well-rounded knowledge of the construction industry through previous employment as a technologist, CAD/Revit Technician and Project Engineer, working across a wide range of market sectors.
Ian is practised at carrying and developing projects through the RIBA stages from initial architectural discussions with clients through to coordination with other design disciplines and final building delivery. He has strong experience in the Sports and Leisure market sector having adopted a lead co-ordination and design role on a number of prestigious facilities for a main contractor.
In his spare time, Ian enjoys a range of sports including football, cricket and mountain biking. He also enjoys playing the guitar and listening to music.

George Marshall joined Bowman Riley in 2017 while pursuing his Architectural Technology degree at Leeds Beckett University.
George completed his five-year course in 2022, becoming an Architectural Technologist on a part-time basis. He is developing his skills and experience based in our Skipton office.
His dedication to the profession led him to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) in 2024.
George brings his team-oriented spirit from over 14 years of playing rugby. Although he retired from rugby in 2021 to avoid further injuries, his passion for adventure hasn’t stopped. Outside the office, George can often be found training his new puppy or hitting the road in his campervan to explore the UK.

Karen Allison provides invaluable HR, administrative, office and compliance support to the Bowman Riley team.
She works closely with the directors to ensure the smooth running of the practice. Karen is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.
In her spare time, Karen enjoys walking her dog Jasper, a good glass of wine, cooking and meeting up with friends.
Jo Grier – PA & Team Secretary
Jo Grier joined Bowman Riley in 2018 as PA/team secretary to the Building Consultancy team.
She previously worked at Currie & Brown for four years as a team secretary within the building surveying and project management team and PA to the senior director.
Jo has been involved with Rugby Union for many years from Team Manager, Fixtures Secretary, Vice Chair of the Boys section and subsequently Chair of the Girls and Women’s section. She then took up playing rugby union in January 2016, with her position on the pitch as Loose Head Prop. Originally from Sheffield, Jo went to find a new career in London where she qualified as a Blackjack dealer many moons ago.

Joe Mills joined our team in 2021 as an Architectural Assistant based in our Skipton office.
Joe is working towards the completion of his master’s degree/Part II at the Leeds School of Architecture. Prior to studying for his master’s, Joe worked in London for three years on an eclectic mix of projects for two architects’ practices.
From Cheshire originally, Joe moved to Yorkshire to study for a degree in Interior Architecture. After graduating, he spent two years living and working in Northern Kenya where he helped set up a small construction company.
Outside of work, Joe can usually be found outside either climbing, mountaineering, or cycling.

Grace Butcher joined our Leeds-based team in 2021 following the completion of her master’s degree at Leeds Beckett University.
Grace’s master’s project focused on how people adapted to isolation during the pandemic and was nominated for the RIBA Silver medal.
Bringing considerable design flair and artistic talent, she produces beautiful designs that bring our clients’ visions to life. Since joining our team, she has been working on residential, care and healthcare projects.
In her spare time, Grace enjoys drawing and likes to keep busy with friends and family. She loves going for a drink and getting to know people and is always up for a new adventure!

With an international learning experience in both China and the UK, she gained a Bachelor of Architecture degree in China and achieved a distinction for her master’s degree from the Manchester School of Architecture in the UK after six years of study.
Gaining experience in both internships and university, Xinyao was involved in a range of projects, including residential, transportation and industrial sectors.

Adam Rollerson – Graduate Architectural Technologist

Adam Rollerson joined Bowman Riley in 2021 as an Architectural Technology Graduate from Nottingham Trent University.
In his final year at University, Adam chose to regenerate a 1936 Art-Deco Odeon Cinema in Harrogate, retaining all of the Grade II listed elements of the original building through façade retention. The building extends out into the car park space, providing new leisure and educational facilities for the town.
In his spare time, Adam spends a lot of time in coffee shops, learning about different origins and filter methods. He also enjoys rebuilding and riding old road bikes and playing music. At university, he played the drums for a psychedelic-rock band, recording singles and performing live gigs across the city.

Emily King joined our Leeds-based team in 2022 after completing her bachelor’s degree in architecture at Leeds Beckett University.
Emily’s projects throughout her time at university focused on architecture that is climate adaptable, serves the community and brings about positive social impact. For this, she was awarded the West Yorkshire Society of Architects prize in 2021. During her time at university, she was a course representative for Architecture and acted as the School Representative for the Leeds School of Arts and Design. Emily was awarded the Gold Beckett Award for extracurricular achievement.
By looking at bridging the gap between imagination and reality, Emily likes to explore how spaces feel and interact with the environment through rigorous model making, sketching and photography. She looks forward to bringing her perspective into practice this year.
In her free time, Emily loves to push past her comfort zone by fell running long distances, learning new creative mediums, writing, photography, and wood/stone carving. She loves learning new skills and meeting new people.

Will Dean – Trainee Architectural Technologist
Will Dean joined our Skipton architecture team as a Trainee Architectural Technologist in 2024. Will previously worked as an architectural technician for four years and has just completed his fourth year at Leeds Beckett University.
In his spare time, Will enjoys going to the gym and focusing on his fitness. He has recently taken up walking and camping (when the weather’s nice).

Sasha Theodoris – HR and Office Administrator
CIPD Level 3, Foundation Degree in Events Management
Sasha Theodoris joined Bowman Riley in 2024 as HR and Office Administrator supporting all our teams and offices.
Sasha started her career in beauty therapy. Working at Grantley Hall as a senior therapist and spa administrator, she decided to take a different career route and took on the role of HR trainee whilst embarking on an HR CIPD Level 3 qualification, which she has now been awarded.
Outside of the office, Sasha enjoys hiking, walking, horse riding, and meeting with friends.
